Everyone fears something. Not the usual fear of an insect or fire or something but fear of losing out on something – fear of not clearing exams, fear of not getting selected in the sports team or fear of even proposing. These are the fears which affect a person’s life, his ambitions and his dreams! Fear is what handicaps a person to deliver his best.
Fear and failure are two sides of the same coin – because one fears losing, he quits his dreams and goes out in the direction where everyone else is going, a tried and tested path. But is it not weird to think that most people quit before trying because they are afraid of the outcome which might not be favourable. The person has lost the game before it has started simply because he cannot think of winning against his opponent. In a competition while facing a stronger opponent people tend to change their natural course and try to do something which is more common in the pursuit of thinking that it might just help him win. But how stupid would it be to think that a person handicaps himself of his natural ability, something he is strong at, for a new option which he is just as much exposed to.
Everyone wants to win, everyone dreads losing, losing out on one’s dreams and by this very reason does everyone hinder their growth to do what one is naturally good at. We don’t follow our heart because we dread losing and we pursue those dreams which were never ours. Many people quit their dreams just because it is instilled in them that they would fail and the fear to come across the people being called a loser is something everyone fears. They change their ambitions in the course to get a victory in some field leaving behind all they wished to live for.
In any field of life – be it sports, arts, entertainment or any other field, the people who have made the difference are the ones who had the courage to go forward with their imaginations and overcome their fears. Had they thought of the feared outcomes we might not have been blessed with the most beautiful discoveries, inventions or entertainers. Had Einstein followed the natural course of study and not gone beyond the bookish knowledge we would not have got any of his great theories.
The starting line is the same for everyone before the race starts. No one is ahead in any game before it starts be it sports, entertainment or life itself. It is the process which decides who wins or loses but if one does not participate he just cannot win. If you enter a boxing ring you are bound to get hurt, but maybe just maybe by hitting back, by fighting your way through you might just be able to win, but if you fear the shots you might get and don’t enter the ring itself or be defensive just in order not to be humiliated than your are already defeated.
It is a weird thought but maybe it’s true that the fact that we are afraid to lose is because we think we can win. We fight today because we believe we can survive, we believe we can go through and win it. Before a match starts against a tougher opponent we make plans on how to go about things in the process in order to win. There is always that hope that maybe you can pull off an upset, that you may just give the person a go, impliedly saying you are not afraid, come what may you will go ahead and fight and battle and even if you go down, your head would be high because you didn’t quit. And the feel if one wins is inexplicable!!!
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us most…We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in all of us. And when we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
So go on and follow your dreams, and fear not, for beyond fear lies success!!!
